Frequently asked questions
What does PEIMock do?
It runs a McKinsey-style Personal Experience Interview with an AI interviewer. You pick a dimension (Leadership, Connection, Drive or Growth), the interviewer asks one opening question, you tell one story, and the interviewer probes it with up to twelve follow-ups — what you said, what you were thinking, how the other person reacted, how you know it worked. Then you get a debrief that scores six criteria from 0 to 4 with quotes from your own answers, rewrites your weakest moments, and saves a story outline to your story bank.
Is the first mock really free?
Yes. You need an account so your transcript and debrief are saved; no card is asked. The free debrief shows your overall readiness, the headline, and the first two criterion cards in full. The remaining cards, the rewritten moments and the next steps are shown blurred until you upgrade.
How close is this to the real PEI?
The format follows what candidates and coaches describe publicly: one story, deep follow-up questions, a wrap-up without feedback. The interviewer is a language model, so it will not read your face or your pauses, and a real interviewer may go in a different direction. What it does well is the part most candidates never rehearse — a relentless chain of follow-ups on a single story. Our prompts are modeled on publicly described formats; they are practice prompts, not live interview questions.
Which dimensions does it cover?
All four: Leadership (formerly Inclusive Leadership), Connection (formerly Personal Impact), Drive (formerly Entrepreneurial Drive) and Growth (formerly Courageous Change). You can choose one or let the interviewer choose.
How is my story scored?
Six criteria, each 0 to 4: dimension fit, ownership, specificity, obstacle, impact and reflection. The overall readiness is the lower of your dimension-fit score and the average of the other five, because coaches say an off-dimension story fails regardless of how well it is told. The bands are Not yet, Developing, Ready and Strong. It is our simulator's scale, not McKinsey's — McKinsey does not publish its scoring.
Does it store my stories?
Transcripts, debriefs and story outlines are stored in your account so you can review them and practice the same story again. They are sent to a language-model provider through our hosting platform's AI gateway to generate the interviewer's questions and your debrief; we do not use them to train models. You can delete your account at any time, or ask support to delete your data.
Can I speak instead of type?
Yes, in browsers that support dictation (Chrome and Edge on desktop, most mobile browsers). The Dictate button turns your speech into text in the answer box; you review it and send it yourself. You can also have the interviewer's questions read aloud.
What do Starter and Elite add?
Starter unlocks the full debrief on every mock, unlimited single-dimension drills and the story bank. Elite adds unlimited full mocks, a tougher interviewer that presses on contradictions the way a final-round partner would, transcript export, and dashboard analytics across your mocks. No subscription. See the pricing page for current prices.
What is your refund policy?
Seven days, no questions asked. Email support and the purchase is refunded.
Is PEIMock affiliated with McKinsey?
No. PEIMock is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by McKinsey & Company. "PEI" is the name McKinsey uses for its personal experience interview. Scores are our own, not McKinsey's, and nothing here predicts an interview outcome.
